I used to be a realist – portraits in particular. Today it’s the core meaning of things, ideas, and models that gets my attention. To render that meaning, one needs a different hand, eye, and spirit to support the kind of artfulness which lies somewhere in that moment just before one puts the first mark on the canvas. It’s a place where intuition plays at ‘full on’ only from such a place can you make that perfect magical line, brush stroke, or pour.
Sadly however, even this may not be what many people would call ‘real art’.
In any case I will keep looking for the bottom of this business of being or of becoming an artist.
I will know more after the next picture.
